Switch to Another Language

By default, the language displayed will be the one coming from the browser. However, on every page you can choose to switch between the different existing translations as follows:

  • click the DrawerMenuIcon.png button in the upper right corner which will open the drawer menu
  • click on "Languages" to expand the list of available translations, then on the translation you wish to load

Another possibility is to suffix URLs with language=<2-letter language code>.

Once you click on a language, you are forcing it and thus all pages which have translations in that language will display these translations by default when you access them.

Set the Default and Supported Languages

To define the default language or to set the supported ones you need to have administration rights. For more details about the process or about the way of forcing a single language, go to the "Customize the Language and Timezone Settings" documentation page.

Edit a Translation

You may edit the page in the default language that is indicated in the "Page Information" panel as shown below:

You can there see the current language you are performing translations in and the alternative languages you may translate your page to. These are the languages you have previously set up in the wiki administration page.

In order to translate your page in a different language, click on one of the languages (e.g. Fr). As a result, you will see the wiki interface translated in that language.

Once you save a page in one of the supported languages, that page becomes the original page and the language it is written in becomes the default language.

All page translations share the same set of XWiki objects. As a result, it is impossible to have different objects (like tags, access rights, comments etc.) in different translations.
